FAQ

Can I change my registration after I submit it?

You may change your registration free of charge up until the registration deadline. Thereafter, there is a $10 late fee per person for adds; drops are free.

To modify a registration, start from the registration site, enter your e-mail address in the “View/Modify Existing Registrations” box and press the “Retrieve” button. This will bring you back the page that summarizes all your registrations. Change the data as necessary, and press the Update button.

Why don't I show up in the stats?

The statistics pages are updated about a minute after the last time someone pushes the “Commit and Exit” button. If you finished registering and didn't click the button, your data will be saved to the database, but will not be displayed until someone pushes the button. Don't worry, your data is not lost. Check back in a while to make sure. If there is still a problem, please email us and we'll look into it.

I'm in charge of registering my whole team. Is there anything to help streamline the process?

There are a few extras that should make your job easier. If you use a team e-mail address for all members, select the checkbox on the “prime” page labelled “Partner/team uses same email”. This will propagate the entered e-mail to all following pages — saving you from re-entering it on every page. Likewise the affiliation will be propagated automatically to every page so you should only have to enter names and events for all your competitors.

The only potential complication is if you have several members with similar but different names. This can trigger a “name collision” and brings you to a page to resolve the collision. Please read the options carefully to avoid having a person double-billed on the invoice.

After finishing one person and any partners click the “Register Another Couple” button. This will return you to the “prime” page, but with the e-mail and affiliation pre-set. Continue registering people and couples in this manner. When you finish, use the “Commit and Exit” button. None of your team's competitors will appear on the statistics page until you click that button.

Our invoice shows someone from our school who is not on our team. How do I remove them?

Please follow the directions at the top of the group page to generate a CompInaBox account and associate your account with your team. After that has been done, return to the page follow the “Update Information” link. You can also use this mechanism to “adopt” people who have a different affiliation but for whom you still pay.

If there are other tasks you'd like to be able to do, please email us so that we can add it to our wish list of features.

Why does the registration page list our university as having eight competitors when we really only have seven?

This is likely a case of “Tom Jones” and “Tommy Jones”. If different partners entered their partner's names differently, one person may be represented twice. We try to catch these mistakes automatically, but sometimes they slip through. Just let us know and we will fix it.

We are organizing a competition, can we use your software?

Yes. CompInaBox was designed to be usable by a wide spectrum of competitions. We believe we can support most collegiate-type competitions and are adding support for “Adult” competitions. Please see the setup page for more details.

How can I help make this software better?

The two easiest ways are to submit bug reports and new feature requests using the links at the bottom of the registration site. If you want to do more, CompInaBox is an Open Source project and is always looking for new developers. E-mail Eric Nielsen for details.
